Washer repair in Stafford, VA
Won't drain, won't spin or shaking across the floor. Top-load and front-load washers.
Swift and Reliable
Straight answers
A washer that stops mid-cycle leaves you with a tub of wet laundry and no clear answer. The usual causes are well known: a clogged drain pump, a failed lid or door lock, a worn belt or motor coupler, or a sensor giving the control bad information.
We repair top-load and front-load washers, including high-efficiency models and stacked laundry pairs. We’ll run the machine, test the parts and tell you what failed.
If the problem is worn tub bearings or a failed transmission on an older machine, you’ll get a straight answer on whether it’s worth it.

Common problems
What goes wrong with a washer, and what we check
-
Washer won't drain
What we check
We check the drain pump filter or coin trap, the drain hose for kinks and clogs, and the drain pump itself. Socks caught in the pump are a frequent cause on front-loaders.
-
Washer won't spin
What we check
We test the lid or door lock, the drive belt or motor coupler, and the motor control. A washer that's still holding water won't spin, so we check the drain first.
-
Leaking during the wash
What we check
We look at the door boot on front-loaders, the inlet hoses and valve, the drain pump and the tub seal. Too much detergent can also push suds out through the overflow.
-
Shakes or moves during spin
What we check
We check that the machine is level, then inspect the suspension rods or shocks, springs and snubber. On a newly installed front-loader, shipping bolts left in place cause severe shaking.
-
Loud roaring when it spins
What we check
A roar that gets louder with speed usually points to worn tub bearings. Scraping or grinding can also come from a coin or bra wire caught between the drum and the tub.
-
Won't fill or fills slowly
What we check
We check the screens in the hose connections, the water inlet valve and the water level sensor or pressure switch. Low house water pressure can also slow the fill.
Straight answers
Is it worth fixing?
Washers usually last about 10 to 13 years. Pumps, lid locks, belts, couplers, inlet valves and suspension parts are routine repairs worth doing on most machines.
Worn tub bearings and failed transmissions are the big ones. On many front-loaders the bearings are built into a sealed outer tub, so the repair means replacing the whole tub, and on an older machine that often costs more than half the price of a comparable new washer. In that case, or when the washer is near the end of its typical life, replacing it usually makes more sense.

FAQ
Washer repair questions
Still have a question? Call (540) 922-7111
Why does my front-load washer smell?
Front-loaders seal tightly, so moisture and detergent residue get trapped in the door boot, the pump filter and the outer tub. Mildew grows there and causes the musty smell.
Wipe the door boot after the last load, leave the door and dispenser drawer open to dry, and run a monthly cleaning cycle. Use HE detergent, and less of it than you might think.
How often should I replace washer hoses?
Rubber inlet hoses can bulge, crack and burst with age. Many manufacturers recommend replacing them about every 5 years, even if they look fine.
Braided stainless hoses resist bursting better, but they should still be replaced on a similar schedule. Turning off the water valves before a long trip is a simple precaution.
Why does my washer keep stopping with an unbalanced load?
Washers slow down or stop when a load is lopsided, to protect themselves. A single heavy item like a bath mat or comforter is the usual cause.
Redistribute the load or add a couple of towels to even it out. If it happens with normal loads, the suspension or a leveling foot may be worn.
